Quilting hobbyist Lucinda Secrest McDowell sees each moment as a piece of quilt which God weaves together to make a glorious lifelong work of art. In Quilts from Heaven, she thoughtfully recognizes the “threads of faithfulness, stitches filled with love, and the all-important lining of his grace” while assembling her own patchwork of Scripture, testimony, and heartwarming stories. Most uniquely, the author compares the designs from many traditional quilting patterns to God’s intricate work in every person’s life.

A native of San Francisco, Tramaine Hawkins got her start as a teenager in 1968 performing with the Edwin Hawkins Singers during the homemade recording session that produced the crossover smash “Oh Happy Day,” the biggest-selling Gospel single to date. In the early ‘70s, she married Walter Hawkins, who went on to lead the Berkeley Love Center Church of God in Christ Church. There she sang lead soprano with her husband’s Love Center Choir. She began her solo recording career in the mid-’80s. As a solo artist, she drew from a variety of genres. Her tendency to utilize popular music has caused controversy amongst conservatives and even caused others to question her faith, but a close listen to her music demonstrates that even though her music has crossed over, her faith and good intentions are rock-solid.

Quo vadis?Where are you going?is an appropriate question to ask of the current evangelical movement. To get a bearing on evangelical thought and assess future directions, the editor of the Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, Andreas J. Kostenberger, has gathered selected addresses from past presidents of the ETS and contributed a thorough introduction and probing epilogue of his own. Covering the early years, the maturing movement, and recent times, the addresseswhich span JETS' first fifty yearsinclude discussions of foundational doctrinal issues, exegetical and theological practice and methodology, and current concerns delivered by some of evangelicalism's most distinguished leaders. These presidential addresses give today's scholars a much fuller and deeper appreciation of the history of evangelicalism and their place within it. Readers will also experience great hope for the future of a movement whose best days, by God's grace, are yet to come.
