Resurrection Of The Son Of God

Resurrection Of The Son Of God

Winner of 2003 Theologos award, named both Book of the Year and Best Academic Book by the Association of Theological Booksellers. It has also won the 2004 Christianity Today Book Award in the category of Biblical Studies. Why did Christianity begin, and why did it take the shape it did? To answer this question-which any historian must faceA-renowned New Testament scholar N. T. Wright focuses on the key question: what precisely happened at Easter? What did the early Christians mean when they said that Jesus of Nazareth had been raised from the dead? What can be said today about this belief? This book, third in WrightA's series Christian Origins and the Question of God, sketches a map of ancient beliefs about life after death, in both the Greco-Roman and Jewish worlds. It then highlights the fact that the early Christians' belief about the afterlife belonged firmly on the Jewish spectrum, while introducing several new mutations and sharper definitions. This, together with other features of early Christianity, forces the historian to read the Easter narratives in the gospels, not simply as late rationalizations of early Christian spirituality, but as accounts of two actual events: the empty tomb of Jesus and his "appearances." How do we explain these phenomena? The early Christians' answer was that Jesus had indeed been bodily raised from the dead; that was why they hailed him as the messianic "son of God." No modern historian has come up with a more convincing explanation. Facing this question, we are confronted to this day with the most central issues of worldview and theology.

Unlike other audio Bibles, The Message was fashioned by Eugene Peterson to be read aloud, not as a study Bible. Includes The Message audio from the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Rethinking Genesis : The Sources And Authorship Of The First Book Of The Pe

An assessment of the origins of the book of Genesis. Garrett looks at the various possible sources of information that Moses drew on in putting together this account of the origins of the earth and the appearance of the history of Israel. The documentary hypothesis has always been criticised from conservative theological circles. This has tended to be in the form of outright opposition to the concept and the insistence that Moses used no other source than inspiration by the Holy Spirit. The uniqueness of Garrett's approach is that he combines conservative theology with an investigation of the possible sources of information available to Moses.

Rethinking Worldview : Learning To Think Live And Speak In This World

Everyone has a worldview. How did we get it? How is it formed? Is it possible by persuasion and logic to change one's worldview? In Rethinking Worldview, writer and worldview teacher J. Mark Bertrand has a threefold aim. First, he seeks to capture a more complex, nuanced appreciation of what worldviews really are. Then he situates worldviews in the larger context of a lived faith. Finally, he explores the organic connections between worldview and wisdom and how they are expressed in witness.Bertrand's work reads like a conversation, peppered with anecdotes and thought-provoking questions that push readers to continue thinking and talking long after they have put the book down. Thoughtful readers interested in theology, philosophy, and culture will be motivated to rethink their own perspectives on the nature of reality, as well as to rethink the concept of worldviews itself.
