| John Owen was born in the year 1616, and grew up in a quiet Oxfordshire parsonage, entering Oxford University at the age of twelve, gaining B.A. in 1632 and M.A. in 1635. Owen is one of the most prominent theologians England has ever had. Owen's first book was published in 1642, and his last was passing through the press at the time of his death, in 1683. His published works include a total of twenty-four volumes. Oliver Cromwell used John Owen as his personal chaplain for some years, and had him preach to Parliament a number of times, from 1646 on. He pastored three churches during his lifetime. Owen married twice; his first wife died in 1676. He had eleven children, none of whom survived him. His grave is still preserved in the Bunhill Fields burial ground, City Road, London. The book The Death of Death in the Death of Christ, here presented in an easy-to-read version, was published by Owen in 1647. It is suggested that no one has ever succeeded in refuting the thesis that Owen here so fully expounds and defends from the Scriptures. |

| J.R. presents the antithesis of an infamous heavy metal album of similar moniker, Death By Stereo, with Life By Stereo —signifying God’s use of music as a medium to communicate LIFE rather than DEATH. Life By Stereo centers on the human existence, its trials and the healing balm of the gospel message. Like the book of Psalms, J.R.’s pen scopes the lamentations, woes and triumphs of the whole person. Transcending generation and genre, the album ministers in a style all its own—fusing eclectic neo-soul, urban gospel and contemporary styles. And J.R. sings with a soul-stirring grit and maturity. Building on the foundation of his debut album, Metamorphosis, J.R. has himself undergone a transformation. It is revealed in the artistry of this album’s jam-packed array of percussive beats and explosive lyrical delivery. The Outkast-meets-Stefani “Not a Slave” hones in on the perils of a past life ruled by sin contrasted with a present life ruled by the Holy Spirit. However, the softer side of Life By Stereo is clearly an indication of his thought-provoking study of God’s word. “The Getaway”-a song that runs in smooth motion, recalling the vocal styling of John Legend—is about escaping the “business” of everyday life to hear God speak. Life as a soap opera surfaces in “When the Thrill is Gone” which features Gospel Hip Hop heavyweight Lecrae. But, “Ok/Alright” is a refrain of victory for all believers who have experienced rescue from a corrupt lifestyle. Continuing that vibe is “Say Yeah”—a sure head-nodding favorite. The worshipful prowess of J.R. is brought to the live instrumental cover “Never Lose” by Tim Hughes—author of “Here I Am to Worship.” The bass booster groove favorite is sure to be “On Tonight”—announcing the arrival of the weekend and a time to celebrate the glory of new life in Christ on the dance floor. Life By Stereo is a conduit of God’s messages on living—how to live, cope in and celebrate…life. An instant classic-this project has the rare quality of being musically relevant, timeless and evoking the feeling that years from now, we’ll all want to play Life By Stereo. |
