Christian tradition has long been hostile to the book of Esther. Believing the book lacked a specifically religious perspective, making no mention of God or of prayer, many of the church fathers regarded it us uncanonical. But is such a stance justified? Perhaps this short book of the Old Testament has more to say to us today than we would expect. In Gospel in Esther, Michael Beckett challenges such long-pervading attitudes. He presents an overtly Christian and typological reading of Esther, in which Esther herself is presented as a female exemplar of Christ. What would appear to be an entirely secular telling of a story of deliverance is shown to be a typological depiction of the universality of God's grace and the all- sufficiency of the sacrifice of Jesus, in whom God has done all that is necessary to save humankind.

The ancient wise men from the East read the skies and journeyed to worship the Christ. Do the heavens that reveal God's glory also reveal His plan of salvation?Yes, says Joseph A. Seiss, who comtemplated the strange figures of the Zodiac and studied the writings of astronomers through the ages. After extensive research, Seiss looked into the night and became convinced that God had etched His good news there, so that people in the darkness might see and have hope.Drawing on scientific, historical, and Biblical sources, Seiss assembled persuasive arguments for his thesis: the gospel of Jesus Christ can be seen in the stars. This illustrated study of the heavens answers the false teachings of astrology to reveal celestial players acting out the epic drama of creation and revelation: the virgin, the coming one, the scales of justice, the toiling deceiver, the scorpion, the ram, and the lion.

The chapters of this book were originally delivered as papers at a symposium on the gospel ministry in the present day at the John Owen Centre for Theological Study, London, England.Evangelist, pastor, teacher today's gospel minister juggles several different roles. As Andrew A. Davies says in his paper, 'Pastoring the flock of God in today's world is a challenging business. This is partly because the pastoral office itself is under attack, partly because professionals have taken over pastoral functions, and partly because pastors have to deal with an often-bewildering variety of pastoral difficulties.' From the biblical foundations of gospel preaching through a historical review of pastoral ministry to a look at ministry in the context of contemporary society, the contributors to this book evaluate the work of gospel ministry, explore in detail the roles of pastor, teacher and evangelist, and conclude with an examination of ministerial training.

The church is being challenged with "new perspectives" on Paul's doctrine of justification. This book examines both the "older perspectives" and the claims being made by those who propose a newer reading of the apostle's letters. This will enable a careful study of a very timely issue-the defense of the gospel itself.

The book of Romans has been influential in critical moments of the Christian church history. In the early church, Paul's words in this book were the means of the conversion of Augustine. During the Protestant Reformation they particularly influenced Martin Luther and John Calvin. Later, in the evangelical revival of the eighteenth century, they changed the lives of George Whitefield and John Wesley. But it is not only those who have become leaders in the church who have been affected by the epistle to the Romans. Ordinary Christians, too, have lived transformed lives as a result. People have often turned to the letter to the Church in Rome because Paul clearly sets out a theological framework for us to understand. It is a comprehensive description of the way that God offers salvation to humankind - and it is 'Good News'.R.C. Sproul is the founder of Ligonier Ministries in Florida. An internationally renowned theologian, author and speaker. Not many people are gifted to explain the Bible to us in the way that R.C. Sproul can.
