| "Mothers are faced with logical, and sometimes loony, sources of fear when it comes to their children. Every Mom's Fear Factor shows mothers how to recognize when such fears are out of proportion and gives them the tools needed to stay balanced in the face of fear. This book is not a simple "Don't be frightened" guide. It focuses, instead, on the courage in "encouragement." This book helps women recognize and thrive inside the paradox of needing to be a protector, encourager, and comforter as their children grow. It's a fine line--but an important one--between being wisely aware of danger and allowing the prospect of danger to paralyze. Good parenting may look hard or next to impossible but--even walking that high wire--moms can arm themselves with tools, skills, wise counsel, faith in a trustworthy God, and perspective to face the challenge. Drawing from expert psychological advice alongside testimony from real moms with real fears, this book brings a warmhearted, encouraging voice_as well as hope that the goals are achievable, exciting and worth the risk--to other moms out there who may be struggling with these very issues. Every Mom's Fear Factor offers honest, personal experiences, a healthy dose of good laughs, and encouragement to ask the right questions and dig deep--in both the Bible and ourselves--for useful answers. The Hearts at Home Workshop Series is designed to encourage, equip, and educate moms who are at home or would like to be. Ideal for personal use, group discussions, and mentoring relationships, each book in this series includes questions for personal reflection and a leader's guide with discussion questions." |

| Ministry is messy business. As a pastor or church leader, you interact regularly with people struggling with depression, sexual harassment, pornography, divorce, the effects of abortion, and other serious issues. You are called upon to work through these crises, but may feel very unequipped to do so. In this collection of fifteen case studies, Kenneth Swetland prepares church leaders to deal with the messy stuff head on, rather than merely doing damage control after the problems have erupted. Each chapter presents a real-life crisis and leads the reader to work through careful biblical responses to it. Included are discussion questions for each case study, an appendix for discussion facilitators, and a bibliography of additional resources on the particular issues raised. Kenneth L. Swetland (D.Min., Andover Newton Theological School) has been academic dean and professor of pastoral ministry at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary for more than thirty-two years, and is now Campus Chaplain. He is the author of The Hidden World of the Pastor: Case Studies on Personal Issues of Real Pastors.A collection of fifteen case studies that give church leaders practical and realistic preparation to handle tough issues like sexual harassment, pornography, divorce, and the effects of abortion. The book includes discussion questions, an appendix for facilitating discussions, and a bibliography of additional resources. |

| David McDonnall lived a thrill-seeker's life as a missionary and water specialist in northern Sudan and Jordan. Carrie McDonnall found her love for the Arab people by working with Palestinian children in Israel. Together, they found love and a shared a mission that took them into the mysterious, embattled land of Iraq. On March 15, 2004, Carrie and David prepared for a day of surveying refugee camps with fellow missionaries Larry and Jean Elliott and Karen Watson. The day ended in tragedy, with three American missionaries killed instantly in an insurgent ambush and two struggling for life. David's love for his wife, and his sheer force of will to see her to safety in the face of his own death, gives us a glimpse into their shared faith and love for God and ministry.
